Our team has helped scores of clients buy and sell property in Ringwood. With one of our five offices situated in Ringwood itself, we know a thing or two about the area and we would like to share them with you here. You’re in the right place if you want to know what it’s like to live in Ringwood and what to expect when stopping by.

Where is Ringwood?

Ringwood is a charming market town located in southwest Hampshire just outside of the picturesque New Forest. Many residents are attracted to the town because it presents a rural style of living while remaining within easy reach of more urbanised areas. It’s easy to get to larger towns and cities nearby due to a good motorway system and active bus lines. The A338 leads south to the south coast, including Bournemouth and Poole, whereas the A31 to the east joins the M27 to Southampton, Portsmouth and heads towards London.

How many people live in Ringwood?

Ringwood has an approximate population of 13,000 people. The town has experienced a slight increase in population over the last 20 years of around 0.4%. Interestingly, much of the population is made up of working-age adults, which is likely due to easy commuter links to more urbanised areas.

What is Ringwood most known for?

Ringwood is a historic market town that is certainly keeping up with tradition. The town runs a famous weekly street market every Wednesday. Locals and visitors flock to Ringwood’s weekly market to check out what local traders are offering, including handmade items, foods and drinks. There is also a bi-monthly antiques and decorative arts market and a monthly farmer’s market. Even when the market isn’t on, there is still an array of modern and quaint shops that are worth visiting.

New Forest and Moors Valley

Ringwood nestles up to one of England’s most delightful national parks, The New Forest. This makes Ringwood an ideal and idyllic base to explore the area – even better if you live here and can visit the New Forest frequently.

The New Forest itself offers a wide variety of activities and events, including but not limited to:

  • Cliff top walks
  • Cycling
  • Watersports
  • Wildlife observing
  • Music events
  • Food festivals
  • Art shows
  • Events and activities for families with young children
  • And even a dog festival!

The Moors Valley and Country Park and Forest is also nearby, offering similar activities and events with the addition of a Go Ape treetop course, laser tag, fishing and even golf. With so much on offer so close to Ringwood, it’s impossible to not find exciting excursions and things to do for all the family.

Eating and drinking in Ringwood

Foodies won’t be short of options in Ringwood and the surrounding area. There is a variety of restaurants, eateries and wine bars to choose from, all offering different authentic cuisines and experiences. Of course, you’ll find characterful English pubs in the area as well, including Old Beams Inn which has been serving ales and food for over six decades. Old Beams Inn is situated in a beautiful building first erected back in the 11th century – expect a thatched roof and cosy open fires inside.

Ringwood boasts a heritage of brewing due to its proximity to locally grown barley and clear waters. This is why beer and ale drinkers should have Ringwood Brewery on their Ringwood bucket list. Upon visiting, you can also indulge in cheeses, nibbles and homemade spreads.
