Wimborne Minster (usually just called Wimborne) is an impressively preserved historic market town located near the rivers Stour and Allen in Dorset. With a history dating back to pre-Roman times, Wimborne is the perfect place to step back in time while enjoying modern amenities. Fancy living in Wimborne? Here is our comprehensive guide to relocating.

Things to do in and around Wimborne

Featuring a town crier, a 1300 year old church called Minster Church of Cuthburga which has a rare chained library (so called because the books are chained to the shelves so you can read them but can’t take them), and one of the largest collections of 15th-17th century buildings in Dorset, Wimborne is one of the largest and best established historic towns in the country.

The town centre has independent boutiques as well as recognisable shops, cafes, and charming places to eat and drink. The Tivoli theatre, built in 1936, features films and live shows. Want to see what Wimborne looked like in the 1950s? Visit Wimborne model town and wander through the miniature streets at 1/10th the size. Wimborne also has stately National Trust homes and gardens, meadows, river walks, and luscious rolling hills. Every summer, the Wimborne Folk Festival takes to the streets with traditional dance, a procession, and activities for the whole family.

If you’re an avid walker, Wimborne is the ideal area to relocate to as it’s surrounded by beautiful countryside. You can stroll to nearby Iron Age hill forts, or head over to the New Forest National Park. Fancy a day at the beach? Neighbouring towns Poole and Bournemouth both have delightfully sandy beaches for you to lie back, relax and listen to the waves or enjoy a spot of swimming, and the famous Jurassic coast is about 20 miles away. There are also cute villages on the outskirts of the town if you fancy something more rural.

Wimborne is in East Dorset, around nine miles from Bournemouth and seven miles from Poole. There are regular buses that go from Wimborne to both Bournemouth and Poole. Wimborne is also easily accessible by road. Bournemouth airport is just over seven miles away.
